I spent last week in Utah at the Stampin' Up! Convention. Every year, several THOUSAND demonstrators attend the much anticipated event in Salt Lake City at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
And we are never disappointed. The town rolls out the red carpet for us! The surrounding hotels and businesses really treat us well. From welcome signs, discounts, special arrangements and even extended hours....Salt Lake City makes sure our every need is satisfied.
Local businesses post these signs on their doors welcoming us with open arms.
Even the cross walks delight us....this cross walk is between the street lights. So they have these bright orange flags on each side of the street. When you cross, you take one and wave it over your head making the cars stop in their tracks. After crossing, you leave it on the other side of the street. My friend, Ann, demonstrates for me :)
And this is how Stampin' Up welcomes us!
They wow us by decorating the convention center with beautiful designs and artwork.
This year the theme "GROW" was depicted with lovely garden artwork throughout the convention center.
Even the columns were all dressed up.
Every single one was encased in the this elaborate silk screened material.
We had a few minutes to spare....so we visited the Temple.
Isn't the architecture just breathtaking?? It's amazing up close and in person.
The beautiful artwork extends inside the visitor's center in Temple Square. Once again the picture doesn't quite do this justice. As you walk up a circular walkway going up a couple of stories, the sky line appears to move around you. When you get to the top, you discover this statue.
As we continued to walk thru the complex, we happened into the Joseph Smith Memorial Building that is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the completion of it's construction. All the volunteers were wearing period costumes with historical memorabilia displayed. This volunteer was kind enough to pose for us!
Our final stop was the Beehive House. To the left of this building, was the original church administration office of Brigham Young. And this was his governor's mansion.
Inside, each room is preserved in it's original form. Elaborate wood work and plush surroundings give a small glimpse of what life used to be like.
On Tuesday we were busy little bees!! After our tour of the Temple Center, we ventured over to Park City.
It is the cutest little town! This is Main Street where most of the buildings are historical landmarks.
We enjoyed walking down one side of the street and back up the other. The street is lined with restaurants and quaint little boutiques and art galleries. We could have spent hours venturing inside each one. But.....
We were on a mission! My aunt recently opened the restaurant, Silver, and I couldn't be sooo close and not pay a visit!
Silver is built inside the old Electric Power Building for Park City! The restaurant offers dining on 3 different levels, and we chose to dine on the top level overlooking the mountains of Park City. As is all of Utah...the view was breathtaking! Plush, green mountains, quaint ski chalets, mountain bikers riding the ski lifts to the top and, of course, Main Street itself.
We had the perfect table....and were so lucky my Aunt was able to join us for dinner. We were off to a great start on our first night in Utah dining and chatting until late into the night! I think we have a new tradition...We must visit Silver next year.
And if you are ever near Park City,Utah, you must visit it, too!
Tune in for Day 2....all about the Stampin'
Happy Stampin'
Jami
